The Need For Honest Gear Review

In a world where reasonable and honest gear reviews are hard to come by, who can you trust?

Unironically it seems that reason can be found by digging through robot-ridden responses on merchant platforms, where honestly is found on subjective platforms like Reddit. Posts in r/ultralight, r/coffee, r/hammockcamping, and so many more are chock-full of die hard enthusiasts who's day in and day out passions bleed through their responses. Passion is admirable, but it makes seeker-friendly responses hard to discern truth.

I find myself wanting to get into coffee, ultralight backpacking, running, rucking, building project around the house, and modifying or making my own gear with little trusted guidance. When an outlet tells me that a piece of gear or a tool is "more than what I need", I become very skeptical that the lower tier recommendation is actually worthy!

Using my analytical skills and life experience, I aim to give trustworthy and comprehensive reviews that are reasonable. You will understand why I like or dislike something, and maybe even be able to buy a different product based on my in-depth analysis of another!

I am in my young 20's at a desk job where all I do is dream about adventures the life presents. Since I have been married to my beautiful wife, Cate, we have embarked on the adventures of raising chickens and building projects around the house, to converting to black pour-over coffee and getting obsessed with ripstop fabrics.

My true aim is to stop consumerism by giving clear reviews and paths to upgrades, without having you waste money on bad products. I already do these analyses for my own consumption, so truly all this work would be going to waste unless I posted it onto the internet. In a season where the Lord is asking us to pay close attention to our finances, I don't have fun money to waste on products that suck. And neither does anyone else! Regardless of belief, nobody like purchasing products that don't meet expectations or outright fail.

I pray that this blog is able to help at least one other person out there to make a decision on gear and be successful!

For reference, here is a picture of Cate and I after I completed a 3 day backpacking trip in the Great Smokey Mountains National Park last year:
